To blog or not to blog?

I have been reflecting long and hard about my friend’s suggestion that I should write a blog.

I have been sharing my fitness experience with her and she said that there is little out there for women our age trying to get fit; that I got her so motivated that she’s decided to lose weight too, and that my texts make her laugh. She promised that she would persuade the five women in her book club to follow me so I that I wouldn’t feel like I was writing to a void.

Obviously nothing could be done in relation to this without consulting my daughters. I have two Lovely Girls aged 16 and 17 and, when I mooted the idea it wasn’t met with total derision – in fact, the reaction was overwhelmingly positive.

They quickly appointed themselves as my ‘Internet and Social Media Gurus’ and said they would help in any way that they could.

A couple of days later I was prepping dinner and a spontaneous family meeting occurred in the kitchen. The moment was ripe and I said to my husband “I’m thinking of writing a blog”.

He said “Oh I dunno, babe, I couldn’t bear to think about you getting hurt. You’d be putting your private life, our family life, out there, and people can be mean. You’ve also got to think about your job.”

The Lovely Girls in unison said that they thought it was a great idea.

I clearly hadn’t explained the plan very well. “Don’t worry” I said, “It will be anonymous, and I won’t be writing anything about our personal lives.”

The kitchen went quiet and I looked up to see a row of perplexed faces looking back at me, each trying to work out what on earth I would be writing about if not them.

“Oh, you know” I said jauntily, “It’ll be about me.”

The next day I checked in with Luke. I wanted to make sure that he was happy with me blogging about the training programmes that he writes for me. He was really supportive and said that he thought it was a great idea. He loved the fact that it would be about someone trying to work full time, run a family and eat well and get fit.

Well, it seemed that there was no good reason not to get started…
