Week 6 – Journals and Photos

On the whole week 6 was a better week. I was feeling less tired although there was a lot of stuff going on in the background…

Day 36:

Today was always going to be a tough day. we were going to see my mother-in-law who was terminally ill.

I had a really bad night. After the previous day’s workout my right wrist, upper forearm, tricep and shoulder were really tight. I took pain killers in the night which didn’t help.

I walked the dog early and made lunch. My size 12 jeans were too big and I dug out a pair of skinny jeans that I bought in France a few years ago. When I bought them I’d promised myself that I would absolutely, definitely lose weight to get into them. I never managed it.

However, today, they fitted perfectly. I also found a jumper that I’d bought but had never worn (guess why!) – another perfect fit. I was feeling fab. For the first time in years I felt confident in what I was wearing.

I felt like an International Woman of Mystery.

It was a 4 hour round trip but I was organised and disciplined and ate properly. However, I did steal half a home-made gluten free scotch egg from everyone else’s picnic. And because of that I didn’t eat an afternoon snack.

We sat in the garden and saw Grandma, who clearly was very unwell.

By the time we got home my wonderful mum had made a roast dinner. I also really wanted some rice pudding. So I made some, photographed it, ate it and enjoyed it.

After dinner I gave myself a shoulder/arm massage which really helped with the tightness in my right arm.

Day 37:

One of the greatest pleasures in my life is yomping across a muddy field on a sunny Sunday morning with a happy dog by my side.

I had a simple breakfast but was hungry at lunch so added my amazing banana pancakes.

Cardio was half an hour on an outdoor bike and half an hour on the exercise bike. It brought on the return of my knee pain and the tightness in my right glute. I had a long soak in the bath before bed.

Day 38:

I probably didn’t eat enough because I worked through lunch without noticing the time.

I did a great workout but everything was a bit niggly. I had to drop the weight on the bicep exercises but I loved the squat to overhead press, which is one of my favourite movements.

In exciting news – I had no problem lifting the 10kg bar over my head and putting it down. For the first time I didn’t have to yell for help or have someone standing next to me whilst I did it. This was progress.

Also, my leggings felt too big and were falling down.

Day 39:

I had a bad night with my right deltoid and tricep. I felt generally battered. My knees hurt and I couldn’t even face a walk.

I had a gentle day and did some yoga.

Day 40:

In a moment of madness I ate a slice of my mum’s Bara Brith (Welsh tea bread) and gave myself raging indigestion. I am an actual idiot.

My right deltoid continued to complain. Not an injury but just tight. A hot bath and massage helped enormously.

Day 41:

I felt much better today. My clothes were feeling looser and I was in a good mood.

Day 42:

Today was the end of week 6. I did my progress photos first thing. I didn’t eat enough veg today. By the afternoon I was tired and craving carbs.

End of Week 6 Progress Photos:

In my first 42 days I’d lost 6lbs in ‘weight‘, 2.5 inches off my waist and 2 inches from my hips.

To say that I was totally and utterly thrilled would be an understatement. I never imagined that in just 42 days I’d see such a difference.

(Usually caveats and apologies for my hopeless photography – I know the scales are different but my starting photo wasn’t in Bodytracker. That said – fat is fat whatever the scale).

I’ve still got a long, long way to go.
